Benefits
"The night before surgery, Sue Michaelsen came to my
home. What she did...relaxed me so thoroughly that...I slept
deeply until the alarm went off. The anesthesiologist told me that
people facing bypass surgery are almost always terrified, so they are
invariably tense, tight and anxiety-ridden. Not me! I was
completely relaxed and anxiety-free. I sailed through quadruple
cardiac bypass surgery with no trouble at all! After my surgery,
Sue came to my home and gave me more Jin Shin Do®
Sessions that let me stop taking "heavy-duty" pain medications much sooner than
I would have been able to otherwise. What was this Jin Shin Do®
that it could do this? How could simple finger pressure on various parts
of my body alleviate pain, relax my tensions and leave me feeling so great?
I was intrigued and wanted to learn more. That is why, a few months later,
I became a student in Sue's Jin Shin Do®
Classes. I enjoy learning with Sue and teaching Fundamentals of
Self-Acupressure and I use it on myself almost every day. It always
amazes me how just holding a few points for a few minutes will let the pain go
away. I love how giving Jin
Shin Do®
Sessions is helping me assist family and friends. JIN SHIN DO®
WORKS! Thank you, Iona, for devising this great program." Sandi Andresen,

“Jin Shin Do®” means:
“The Way of the Compassionate Spirit.” Jin Shin Do®
Bodymind Acupressure®
Classes teach the use of gentle yet deep finger pressure on specific
acu-points and verbal Body Focusing techniques to help release “armoring” or
chronic tension and balance the “Qi” or energy. This clothes-on method helps
relieve stress- and trauma- related problems.
A unique synthesis of a traditional Japanese acupressure technique, classic
Chinese acu-theory, Taoist philosophy, Qigong (breathing & exercise techniques),
Reichian segmental theory and principles of Ericksonian psychotherapy, Jin Shin
Do® is
recognized as a major form of Asian Bodywork Therapy (by NCCAOM & AOBTA among
others). Originated by psychotherapist Iona Teeguarden, JSD® promotes
a pleasant trancelike state, in which one can relax and move out of the head and
into the body, accessing feelings and inner wisdom.
Jin Shin Do®
Bodymind Acupressure®
uses gentle yet deep finger pressure on
specific acu-points together with body focusing techniques, to help release
chronic bodymind tension (“armoring”). Developed my psychotherapist, Iona
Marsaa Teeguarden, MA, LMFT, this bodymind approach is a unique synthesis of
traditional Japanese acupressure techniques, classic Chinese acu-theory,
Reichian segmental theory, Taoist philosophy and Qigong (breathing and exercise
techniques). Jin Shin Do® promotes a pleasant trancelike state, in
which the participant can move out of the head and into the body, accessing
feelings and the wisdom of the bodymind. Jin Shin Do® means “Way
of the Compassionate Spirit”.
The Jin Shin Do® Foundation
is a
member of the American Oriental Bodywork Therapy Association (AOBTA) Council of
Schools and Programs, JSD®F was founded as a trade organization by Iona Marsaa
Teeguarden, MA, LMFT, in 1982, with the following purposes:
To serve as an international
network of authorized Jin Shin Do® teachers.
To maintain quality in the
art of Jin Shin Do® Bodymind Acupressure®.
To promote growth in the art
of J and to facilitate research in related areas.
To provide informational
materials to professionals and the public.
